Gascoigne Farm, South Lanarkshire

In spring 2021, Agriforest started a large clear fell and thinning operation at Gascoigne Farm. This followed an original fairly late first thinning in 2016. The crop has grown exceptionally well, market prices were at record levels, and the owner decided to harvest a large area while the timing was right.

The second thinning also brought in a useful income, and has improved the final crop which will be harvested in the next 5-10 years. Brash recovery of material left behind post harvesting proved to be a great way of clearing the site quickly and due to the good road access and stacking space, an excellent price was achieved.

Agriforest conducted the work the felling 'in house' and so last minute changes or requests from the owner could be accommodated as and when required along with the overall operation being started and finished when planned.

  • Operation - clear fell plus second thinning, followed by brash recovery. 20.03 hectares clear felling, 36.28 hecares second thinning.

  • Overall timber volume harvested, forwarded to roadside and sold to market - 8,789 tonnes.

  • Overall volume of brash recovered from site and chipped - 2,032 tonnes.
