Agriforest specialises in providing returns for owners of small to medium sized woodlands primarily on farms & estates. We do this through our local contractors who provide an efficient and reliable service.

We have no ties/interests in any one particular market, and are able to access smaller independent sawmills & firewood processors, right through to international markets. With over 12 years experience from ground to management level in the forest industry, we are ideally placed to offer an excellent and well executed service.

One of our aims as a business is to realise the income available from privately owned woodlands. Many owners are unaware of the benefits of effective woodland management, whether this be thinning to achieve a better final crop, or clear felling areas which are at the end of the growing cycle. Even the poorest quality timber still has a market and therefore a value.

A unique aspect of the business is that there are no upfront fees for our services, from initial appraisal, to obtaining relevant consents, and organising & implementing everything from start to finish.

Agriforest is owned and directed by Douglas Mathison, who was born and brought up in the Scottish Borders, an area which he resides in today. Initially training and working as a tree surgeon for an established Borders based business, Douglas then attended the Scottish Agricultural College graduating with a degree in Rural Business Management. This then led to a position with a large national timber harvesting company as a manager, which developed further practical and theoretical skills acquired initially when studying for his degree. The combination of practical, theoretical and management experience ultimately led to the incorporation of Agriforest Ltd in 2016.

When not at work, Douglas enjoys country pursuits such as horse riding, mountain biking, and off road driving.
